The Spanish striker later explained that he rejected this move. Speaking to Estadio Deportivo, Moron said: “It is true there were several clubs who contacted me regarding their interest and we had one firm proposal from them (West Ham).
“I did not want to throw away the opportunity I have here at Betis after moving through the youth system and playing for the reserve side. I let my agents know, I told my parents and friends and told them that my intention was to stay and continue here.”
Betis managed to negotiate a new contract with Moron that extended his stay until 2022. It also increased his release clause to £35.5m. Moron has scored 13 goals in 48 games for Betis in La Liga and is under contract for another three years.
Why would we go for this Moron rather than Maxi Gomez when they cost pretty much the same and Gomez has a more impressive goal scoring record?
Looking at his record i don’t think it’s great.Would rather pay more and hold out for gomez.
13 in 48 is around one goal in 3.7 games – it’s hardly earth shattering, so if it was closer to £10m I’d consider it, but at £35.5m?? Jog on, lads. He clearly doesn’t really fancy East London either, if he spurned the original offer. I would rather go for a hungrier player who is excited by the prospect. Next…
How many people are gonna get ‘Moron’ on the back of their shirts?
Might be useful to know where they are.
He looks on youtube like a pretty average player, he also seems to want to stay in Spain so possibly he would struggle to adjust. If we are going to switch targets go for Balotelli or Zapata both of whom are more prolific, we were also linked in January with Bradley Dack who looks very promising as someone that could fullfill that bullish role ?
