Report: Irons could be set to sign Serie A star

West Ham could be set to sign full-back Joakim Maehle this summer, according to a new report in Italy.

Calciomercato has reported that the Hammers are interested in a deal to sign the Atalanta wing-back, who has been with the Italian club since 2021.

Corriere della Sera has a Bergamo edition that is local to Atalanta and they have claimed that the Denmark international is currently close to leaving.

As a result, the Hammers are claimed to be the likeliest destination for Maehle, although there is no mention of a fee.

He is under contract at Atalanta until 2025 but Transfermarkt values him at £12.6m, a fee that would be well within the Hammers’ reach.

We know that David Moyes is keen to further bolster his backline after signing Nayef Aguerd so there could well be something to this, provided the fee is right.

Maehle made 26 Serie A appearances last season, scoring once and registering one assist.

  1. should be a good defender, denmark lowest conceding defence in world football for long time now.

  2. Not that excited by this kid, looked poor defensively in the Euros am more curious if there is any truth in the Owen Wijndal rumours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsEFgt91NQw he looks good and his defensive stats are very impressive.
