Roberto: What must happen next

|

Stopper Roberto has told the Irons squad to stay positive after today’s shocking display.

Roberto was disappointed but insists the Hammers can swiftly bounce back.

He said: “After a game like that nobody is feeling good. We don’t think we’re a team who plays like we did today and we need to recover and keep the positivity to come back [to how we were playing previously].

“For a goalkeeper it’s much better to not be touching the ball as much in the game, with the ball being kept away. In the end, when you have to make a lot of saves, the reason is you’re defending the whole game.

“I tried to give my best to help my team today, but it wasn’t possible [to get the result].

“We have played very good games this season. The last two results haven’t been good, but we are back at our stadium next week and we want to get back to the victories – and show what we did in the first games.”

ClaretandHugh says: That’s all pretty sensible stuff from Roberto after a game of mixed fortunes for the Spaniard. Yes, he must take his share of responsibility as no keeper should be beaten at his near post – especially from such an acute angle but he was badly let down by Arthur Masuaku who was turned inside out in the build up and given that there were five defenders in the box frankly the goal was criminal. Later he proved himself a great shot stopper with two fabulous close range efforts and looked comfortable for most of the time when under pressure. He’s right when implying that good teams don’t become bad teams overnight and that the squad must remain upbeat. We move on and hope against hope that we don’t have a queue of players lining up to tell us it will get better. We don’t need that  – just do it.

Same old comments just another players turn to say it. Blah, Blah…
Noble will be in the evening standard next week saying “we must learn from our mistakes “ or someone will say “it’s unacceptable “.
This is one of the most easily rolled over teams for a while.
Like most I can’t see anything from This midfield when the going gets tough, so lightweight.
Have we really just given Masuaku a big new long contract followed by Cresswell, unbelievable .

We need players that can really challenge the starting 11 some reinforcements needed in January. Where was the fight, spirit , passion you win games with hard work as a team . The passing is to slow and not accurate what are you doing .

He was without doubt at fault for the first goal. Did he even need to come off his line like he did. I don’t think he did. Secondly I think he did save some shots during the game but most were straight at him to be fair. I think fabianski will be quite missed.. We new that already though..He’s one of the best in the league and Roberto is not..

If a keeper makes an error it is immediately obvious as it normally leads to a goal. The chump in midfield that gave the ball away that led to the keepers error gets swiftly forgotten. Roberto made one error, the rest of the team made multiple errors. No spirit, no passion, no pride in the shirt, no idea. I was, quite honestly, shocked at how easily we capitulated all over the park. Especially after the debacle against Palace. Only a very few can hold their heads up after a performance like that. We can’t even say it was a “one off”” as it’s happening regularly. Some games you cannot play pretty football, the other teams won’t let you. You have to scrap and battle in a lot of games and, unfortunately, we don’t have the players or the mind set to do this.
