United to face United

|

West Ham United will travel to Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round after the Red Devils edged past Liverpool in their fourth-round tie on Sunday afternoon. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side triumphed 3-2 over the Reds in a see-saw Old Trafford clash.

Mo Salah gave Liverpool a first-half lead, only for the Red Devils’ Mason Greenwood to level soon after. Marcus Rashford and Salah exchanged goals in the second half, before Bruno Fernandes’ 78th minute free-kick settled the tie.

The Hammers, who eased to a 4-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in the fourth round on Saturday, will now head to Old Trafford for a midweek game in the week commencing 8 February.

West Ham last faced the Red Devils in the FA Cup in the 2015/16 season, when the Manchester side prevailed following a replay in the quarter-final tie.

West Ham last beat Manchester United in the FA Cup twenty years ago on 28 January 2001 at Old Trafford.  Paolo Di Canio with the only goal.

West Ham’s last win at Old Trafford came the same year when the Hammers won away in the Premier League on 8th Dec 2001, Jermain Defoe getting the only goal that day.

The Hammers last win against Manchester United came at the London Stadium on 22nd September 2019 when Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell made it a 2-0 home win.

I’d love to go to OT someday. It’s one ground on my to do list. Don’t think I’ll manage 92 but maybe get to 50.

What a shame we can’t go, there would be an Army at old Trafford for this one.
Reminds me of when we went up there in the cup in the 80’s, lost 4-2 but it was chaos and a great day out.
Then the Di Canio winner with thousands up there.
Massive memories and new ones that could of been created if not for this Virus. Shame.
