|

Albian Ajeti comes from a footballing family. His two brothers both defenders also used to play for FC Basel – the older one, Arlind, nows plays for Swiss club Grasshoppers, and his twin Adonis is playing for Swiss club St. Gallen where Albian used played.

Ajeti signed a four and a half year contract with FC Augsburg in 2016 and was loaned to St. Gallen on a one-year loan with the option for the club to buy the player. At the end of the season St. Gallen signed him permanently.

In 2017, Basel announced that Ajeti had re-signed a five-year contract.

He comes from Kosovo, but represents Switzerland – although all of them could switch his allegiance with Kosovo. Albian is a homegrown player of FC Basel. He has represented Switzerland at  U-15, U-16, U-17, U18, U20, U21 levels in the past, while he is currently a senior Swiss international making 3 appearances since his debut in 2018.

Ajeti has netted 45 goals in 79 starts and 28 substitute appearances in his career so far making 21 assists in the process. He scored 14 goals last season for Basel and has bagged two already this campaign.

After seeing those goals I will be extra gutted if we don’t sign him.

    I like him alot COYI

I think its fair to say he is a proper striker and instinctively knows where to go in the box to score. I love Antonio but he doesn’t seem to have that natural instinct to get into the right positions, not knocking him I just want to see him on the wing. I think Arnie was a bit the same not being a natural forward and holding back rather than getting in there.

Looks a good finisher from whatever situation. Some slack marking, but you get some of that in the Premier League. He looks able enough to cash in on it.

I’ll be honest, this transfer excites me far more than taking a punt on Welbeck or Sturridge. At least half what they would be asking for in wages and no guarantee they’d ever play. Signing Ajeti shows me that Husillos is doing a great job with his scouts looking in even unlikely places for talent. I couldn’t even pretend to say I have any idea of the quality in the Swiss league, but we all know Basel have made a good show of themselves in European competitions over the years. For a 22 year old with so much first team experience who was prolific last season, 8m sounds like very good business. I hope we get this one done and he may even overtake Hernandez. Even if Hernandez doesn’t go this window, we may be able to move him on in January if Ajeti is looking the business.

  • Spotted Dog says:

Totally agree with westhambri. This striker is a very exciting prospect; fingers crossed. Side note – I’m a bit disappointed that Grady’s going out on loan – I think he adds a lot.

  • Nigel Watts says:

Reminds me of Tony Cottee with those finishes
