Poll: Are the board currently doing a good job?

|

It is almost five months since the spring of discontent when unhappiness with the West Ham board spilled over to the London Stadium during the West Ham v Burnley match. This resulted in a small number of pitch invasions and a few hundred fans protesting outside the Directors box.

The images and headlines went viral at the time but that seems a life time ago now, we survived relegation, we have a new manager in Manuel Pellegrini and the board have invested over £100m in eight players with perhaps more to come in the next three days.

Some have never liked the board from the start, some will never like the board no matter what they do and some have supported them through there ups and downs. In today’s Claret and Hugh poll we ask whether the board are currently doing a good job. It is a straight Yes or No.

In my opinion the board have done well but I am sad to say the signings we have made are not good enough for the money we have spent. IMO the manager has not identified the need for two key players a quality defensive midfielder and a quality 10 to replace Lanzini. I just cannot understand how the manager has not signed these two players. Instead we are trying to bring in a back up striker to Arnie, Hernandez and Antonio. I have been in business for 30+ years and anyone will tell you if you don’t have the resources at your disposal you will not succeed. Pelle has made some terrible decisions in the signing of Wilshere and Fredericks and now going to make two even more terrible decisions in not signing a 10 to replace Lanzini and a defensive midfielder. Btw if we sign Stuaro from Juve, Gomes from Barcelona and Perez from Arsenal it tells me we should have ket Moyes.

To be clear signing Stuaro, Gomes and Perez will not improve us one bit. Signing the likes of Bernard, players of this calibre is what is needed. The players we sign this week could mean the difference in finishing top 8 or again in the bottom half of the league. With 100m invested I believe anything less than top 10 is a failure.

Stuaro, Gomes and Perez will help to improve the strength of the squad, I won’t be voting for the Dave’s or against them because I don’t think it’s their money. I fully expect it’s outside money from a new investor or proposed buyer.

Can’t see there being any march in March this year. Protesters and pitch invaders trying to claim credit for owners actions can do one also. Stick your banners and flag poles up your jacksie. Credit all goes to the owners this time round. Proof that the owners are fans themselves and have the best interests of the club at heart no longer required.

How do I access the poll? There’s no link.

Johnham!. You’ve been in business for 30+ years and you reckon Witshire and Fredericks as free signings are terrible decisions, please tell me your joking!!!

Couldn’t vote on this one we have had a good transfer window and appointed a good manager but it’s too early to say, if we have many consecutive windows like this and buy quality in January would say yes.

Johnham1 … another day another miserable post 🙄🔫

PB61. Thanks for the info, but surprised he lasted 1 year.

    8 signings, with more expected.
How is it possible for more than 3-4 new players to gel at once, let alone 8+.
What about all the previous first team regulars, all but one of which have not been disposed of.
Will invariably create a them-us culture, if not already.
Further research reveals the biggest risks are those we paid the most for, inconsistency and/or past their sell-by date.
What is the actual aim of the 180deg turn? I suspect it is actually little more than an attempt to ensure safety and not endure the ignominy of scraping around at the bottom, trying to avoid relegation.
The new manager is laughing, either way.

Sorry guys for being so negative, I am just so disappointed we have not signed a quality 10 and a quality defensive midfielder. I just feel the impact of all the investment by the owners to date may be diminished by this. I wont be blaming the owners, this is definitely a lack of planning on Pelle’s side. I really hope we bring in two quality players in these positions over the next few days, if they are quality I will be very happy with our summer. I really hope for the owners that we have made the right transfers as they love the club (like I do),

  • ozzie says:

johnham1. As we are not Real, Barcelona, Chelsea , Man City et al the manager is trying to improve the squad as best poss given the limited finances. Only time will tell if the squad he is assembling is a top ten or not, but for now I am looking forward to the season even if we don’t make any further signings. Glass half full springs to mind. Enjoy the season guys.

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I am with you Ozzie, I would like MP and us to start like a train but I don’t expect it, the first 3 months on paper we have a lot of tough matches, with MP trying to establish a new style I expect it to be tough, Rome wasn’t built in one transfer window 😉

  • Pelle I’m Greedy says:

The poll asks are the board doing a good job. They have appointed a great manager and handed him the funds to build a team of his choosing so the answer is an emphatic yes.
We will have to wait and see if all the signings work out, if they don’t it will be down to MP but I think we will be on the up and hope for a season of being entertained and wish for a moan free West Ham.
The most interesting question is whether the talk of a third party or secret investor is true, Hugh and Sean it’s over to you…..

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Sean with your love of a poll and with Usmanov agree to sell all his shares in Arsenal what about a poll to see if the chairmen should approach Usmanov to be a major shareholder or owner of West Ham or if the fans would want it ?
