Former West Ham transfer target William Carvalho has tonight informed Sporting Lisbon of his wishes to terminate his contract in addition to Goalkeeper Rui Patricio who already revealed his intentions after both were violently attacked by fans.
So-called ‘fans’ of Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon broke into the club’s training ground and assaulted players and members of the training staff after they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Sporting released the following statement following the attack in which players and coaches were injured. “Sporting Clube De Portugal vehemently repudiates the events recorded today at Sporting Academy. We cannot in any way condone acts of vandalism and aggression to athletes, coaches and staff of professional football, nor with attitudes that make up the practice of crime that do not honor and ennobled sporting clube de Portugal.
Sporting is not this, sporting cannot be this. We will take all steps to establish full responsibility for what has happened, and we will not fail to demand the punishment of those who have acted in this absolutely regrettable manner”
It remains to be seen whether William Carvalho would still be a target for West Ham under Manuel Pellegrini or whether Wolves keeper target Patricio could be of interest. Both could become free agents and other Sporting Lisbon players would quickly follow them.

Please Whu go back in for him he would add great strength and experience to our team in an area where we have shown weakness
Seems you’re missing the point here.Players and staff were put in danger today by,not football supporters or fans of the club, but by brainless thugs.Wouldn’t be surprised if this type of behaviour spreads. It’s already happened at the London Stadium (Burnley),but this seems more serious and you want to take advantage of a mounting problem.
This happened weeks ago. Would love us to take advantage but a player can’t just rip up a contract. Maybe a chance to do the right thing and go in with a sensible bid though.
Burnley? If it wasn’t for the scenes at Burnley we would still have Moyes and a 7 million transfer kitty……..
Yes terrible scenes, to be honest if we think our chairman is bad their’s is just as bad or worse, Carvalho has had promises broken if he does decide to leave who would blame him.
It’s just a case of opportunism by players to get what they want.
